They aim to bring together high quality professional performers with promoters in rural and non-traditional venues. Over the last ten years, Applause has grown to be a well-respected touring scheme with a core of regular promoting groups who are interested in the work we offer. Applause promoters have hosted over 350 shows, taking place in 80 venues, attracting an audience of around 26,000 and making profits of over £40,000 to invest in further events for their venues. The scheme puts together two seasons each year, one in the autumn and one in the spring. Applause compiles a 'Menu of Events' for each season. They contain details of the arts events that are programmed and available to be booked through Applause. All events are subsidised by Arts Council England South East and for events taking place within the Rother area, by Rother District Council, enabling Applause to offer performances at a greatly reduced rate. The companies that Applause offers include theatre, dance, music as well as companies whose work appeals specifically to children and family audiences. Performers enjoy the experience of rural touring immensely - citing it as a unique and intimate exchange between themselves and local communities. At each venue, the promoter or promoting group will choose performances from the 'Menu of Events' which they would like to host at their venue. The emphasis is on the local promoter hosting the performance, making it a community event. It is up to the promoter to sell tickets, and welcome the performers. Applause provides support and advice, manages all the contracts, and provides publicity, tickets, posters and flyers.
